WEEKEND WORKSHOP
Coming to Now:
Using the Power of your Practice to Cultivate Clarity, Awareness, and Compassion
DATES: Friday evening - Sunday morning,
September 8, 9 and 10, 2006

Beryl Bender Birch is the best selling author of Power Yoga, one of the most successful yoga books available today, and of Beyond Power Yoga, the poetic and philosophical exploration of the 8-limbed astanga yoga method. She was named one of seven American women “innovators shaping yoga today” by Yoga Journal in 2000 and was featured in the 2003 Barnes and Noble book, American Yoga.

Beryl was virtually the ONLY astanga yoga teacher east of the Mississippi for the entire decade of the 1980's. She has literally pioneered the use of astanga yoga as a training tool for athletes like skiers and runners. Beryl coined the phrase "Power Yoga" (along with Bryan Kest) to give her increasingly popular astanga classes a name that westerners could relate to and understand. She is driven to inspire others on the astanga practice of yoga as a workout for the body as well as the mind.

ITINERARY (subject to change):
FRIDAY MORNING MASTER CLASS:
Assists and Modifications for the Hands-On Yoga Asana Traditions of Astanga, Power, and Vinyasa Flow
Friday morning, September 8, 2006, 9:30 am to 12:30 pm
Come join Beryl Bender Birch for a 3 hour master class for teachers and experienced practitioners, in which she will share with you her 35 years of teaching experience in assisting, adjustments, alignment, alternative and modified postures, and many aspects of the therapeutic value of a hands-on yoga tradition. The master class will help you to learn to move yourself or others safely into yoga without injury – from an awkward, tight, and unfocused beginning, to a practice that is fluid, graceful, and mindful. The work will include active practice in asana, pranayama, and mindfulness as well as hands on work with adjustments and energetic healing.

WEEKEND WORKSHOP:
Coming to Now: Using the Power of your Practice to Cultivate Clarity, Awareness, and Compassion
Friday evening, September 8, 2006, 6:30 pm to 9:00 pm
Saturday morning, September 9, 2006, 9:00 am to 11:30 am
Saturday afternoon, September 9, 2006, 2:00 pm to 4:30 pm
Sunday morning, September 10, 2006, 9:00 am to 11:30 am
Light up your life. Find your dharma. Be a force for evolution in your life and in the world. Develop more than muscles from your yoga “workout.” Come to experience your asana practice as a gateway for accessing deeper levels of consciousness and a more profound way of knowing. Once you have found alignment and power in your asana, you can then begin to find stillness. It is in the stillness that the power of now makes its presence known.

The experience of yoga means to be mindful – focused completely on the present moment. Once you have truly experienced the Now, you know Self, and that is the most empowering experience that can ever happen to you. It is only in the present moment that life is fully lived and experienced. It is the only place that you can ever really be. It is where you find your power, your joy, your God and where you will find Truth. The rest is the fantasy of the ego – illusion.

Come dance through the joy of vinyasa flow, with the author and originator of Power Yoga. Uplift your butt and your soul. Join with like-minded practitioners for a sweaty, uplifting practice. Challenge yourself. You can do this. Beryl is the master of modifications, so if you have injuries or doubts about your abilities to practice, come do what you can. You will be made to feel welcome. Get your attention in present time, and the rest will take care of itself.
