Beryl Bender Birch is the best selling author of Power Yoga, one of the most successful yoga books available today, and of Beyond Power Yoga, the poetic and philosophical exploration of the 8-limbed astanga yoga method. She was named one of seven American women “innovators shaping yoga today” by Yoga Journal in 2000 and was featured in the 2003 Barnes and Noble book, American Yoga. She is currently writing the asana column for Yoga Journal for 2004.
Don’t miss out on this extraordinary opportunity to study the Art of Teaching Yoga with Beryl Bender Birch, one of the most highly regarded teachers in the United States. We are thrilled to host Beryl in Dallas for her first ever trip to Dallas for Teacher Training.
Beryl has been teaching yoga since 1974 and training teachers since 1986. She has been the role model for hundreds of thousands of students around the world — both as a best selling author and a “top innovator” in the United States in the field of yoga.
The Yoga Sutras teach that “effort towards steadiness of mind” is the fundamental element of practice. Whether chopping carrots or doing asana, if you are paying attention, than it’s practice, otherwise it's just exercise. It is our job as practitioners first, and then as teachers of “yoga,” to teach by example and actually “do the work” — making a constant effort to pay attention in all we do and leading our students to do the same.
During this teacher training our days will be filled with community, asana, pranayama, conversation, study, leadership training, karma yoga, meditation, group discussion, questions, answers — all as practice! Mornings will specifically be focused on working with many of the postures from the primary and secondary series of the therapeutic vinyasa system of the astanga tradition. Learn to develop your own personal sense of the balance between sukha and sthira, soft and hard, flexibility and strength, and comfort and steady, not only in asana but in life. It is from this place, that the ability to teach and lead is born.
Afternoons will include sessions on all the aspects of the astanga methodology including pranayama and meditation, as well as group reading from five or six different translations of the Yoga Sutras (bring your favorite translation) and chanting.
Thirty (30) hours complete teacher training program can be applied to Beryl’s 250 HOUR ASTANGA YOGA TEACHER TRAINING NATIONAL CERTIFICATION PROGRAM or the Yoga Alliance. All participants completing this program will receive a certification of completion documentation of 30 hours completed.
