"His fiery, soulful voice gave the entire room a feeling of down-home gospel jam and one could not help but sing along." — LA Yoga Pages

"A well known kirtan singer in the worlds of yoga and devotional music." — Yoga Journal

Dave Stringer has been heralded by Billboard Magazine as one of the leaders of the new American kirtan movement. Dave is the first to cross the ancient yogic tradition of kirtan, which he learned in India in the early 1990's, with the ecstatic American gospel sound of exuberant, groove-infused singing en mass. Stringer and his band Japa have packed over 120 yoga studios around the country with their participatory, call-and-response events.

Dave has been invited to lead kirtan with many respected Indian teachers, including Sri K. Pattabhi Jois, Ma Jaya Satabhagavati, Baba Hari Das and Yogi Bhajan. Dave has performed with Krishna Das and Jai Uttal, and collaborated on recordings with Axiom of Choice, Vas, Rasa, Suzanne Teng, Sheila Nicholls, Donna De Lory and Lionel Cole.

THE CONCERT:

The structure is simple: mantras are projected overhead, making them simple to follow. Then a lead group calls out the melodies. The audience responds. As the rhythm builds with tablas, finger symbols, harmonium, tamboura, electric base and guitar the energy accelerates; people clap and even dance. The breathing of the participants becomes synchronous. A feeling of unity and timelessness arises, singing with complete abandon, meditation follows effortlessly.

Mantras still the mind and music frees the heart. Exuberant, poignant and transcendent at different turns. Kirtan marries the mysticism of traditional Indian instruments with the devotional intensity of gospel and the energy of a rock band. A natural extension of Yoga Practice, ecstasy is both the process and the product.

Kirtan, (from the Sanskrit word for singing), is easily learned and instantly memorable. A style of chanting originating in East India, it is one of the world's oldest forms of popular spiritual music. Sanskrit, the language of ancient India, is also the mother tongue of many modern languages. But the true meaning of its sounds are in the wonderful effect they create.

Don't miss this amazing artist and his band for an evening of high powered devotional chanting. This experience will ignite you with light and energy that will last for days!
