Manju Pattabhi Jois, Yoga Guru
of Mysore, India, and oldest son of Sri K. Pattabhi Jois was
born on November 16, 1944. At the young age of 7, Manju was
awakened each morning by his father Pattabhi Jois to begin
lessons that would forever change the course of his life and
the lives of those that would study with him in the years
to come.
Manju began his teaching career
at the age of 15 with his father and has taught the traditional
historical practice of Ashtanga Yoga continuously for the
last 44 years.
After Manju completed high school
in India he traveled all over Northern and Southern India
to give demonstration and teach the Ashtanga Yoga system to
his fellow Indians. He had a passion to travel and teach the
ashtanga tradition.
During his travels, he visited
Pondicherry and demonstrated and taught yoga at the Geeta
Anadna Ashram. It was there that two American students David
Williams and Norman Allen saw Manju Jois demonstrate. They
approached Manju and asked him who his Guru was, Manju sent
them to his father Sri K. Pattabhi Jois.
History was in the making and
it is within this very chance meeting that ended up bringing
Manju and his father Pattabhi to first visit Encinitas California.
This was how Ashtanga Yoga first entered and started in the
United States.
Don’t miss this incredible
opportunity to experience the history and tradition of yoga
in this country imparted by Manju Pattabhi Jois son of Sri
K Pattabhi Jois. Manju is dedicated to his mission of teaching
in this ancient style of yoga. He honors the ancient system
of pranayamas and Vedic chants by introducing this to his
students with clarity and enthusiasm.
This
workshop will be suitable for all students of all levels.
