Surrender

Surrender “To surrender is to hand over everything to God: your thoughts, words, deeds, and everything you own.” Sri Narayani Amma

One way to define surrender is to offer love to the Divine, without expecting anything in return. To have peace and happiness you have to surrender. We all have limited abilities in facing life and the challenges in life. Life becomes easier when we surrender everything to the Divine. When my own life has its struggles I tell myself, “It is all in Divine order.” This helps me to let go and surrender to the Divine. Life is not in my Divine order. The Divine Mother’s/Father’s knowledge is unlimited. By surrendering we accept that everything that happens is happening for the good. Life doesn’t always happen the way we want it to, but when we understand that life happens the way it is suppose to happen we can learn great lessons and find peace and joy. “When you pray for something but do not surrender, you are happy only if your prayers are answered. But, when you surrender, you will accept everything. Whatever comes, you will be ready.” Sir Narayani Amma

Our human joy is disrupted suffering, worry and sadness. The major reasons for these difficulties are: desire and greed. Greed is dangerous because it brings all misery. You may wish for something or pray to the Divine to grant it to you, and if you don’t get it you may worry or get agitated. We may not understand there is a good reason for not getting it. It is our expectations that cause all the stress. We can live without expectations and desires by surrendering. Otherwise your mind will be burdened with anxieties.

The mind always wants something. When you first start the practice of surrendering it may seem difficult. However, when you start to surrender it won't be that difficult. You will become very relaxed by this practice, and when you don’t surrender you will worry and stress. Through this process you will grow spiritually. You will learn to accept the good or bad situations in your life. You will be happy because when you are on the path of surrender and when you try to surrender, you will always be happy. So to have a peaceful and joyful life forever, just surrender.
