Event Description: 

Become an Ayurvedic Yoga Specialist. After completing each of the 4 units and participating in optional Case Study sessions, you will have the knowledge and skill to create a specific dosha balancing yoga practice, use food with awareness, and create a basic lifestyle plan for yourself and for your clients based upon their needs and goals. You’ll be able to offer basic Ayurvedic consultations,“Ayurveda” 101 programs, and you will have access to additional training and supervision from the Himalayan Institute “Graduates Only” case supervision sessions.

This program has been recognized and is listed with the National Ayurvedic Medical Association (NAMA) All dedicated yoga students and teachers are invited to take this training, but certification will only be given to students who have 200-hour yoga certification from an accredited school (YTT program).

Note: Sessions 1, 2 and 3 are open to all and can be taken as independent workshops and must be completed before registering for Unit 4. All four sessions are required for certification.

About the Certification

Students will learn

  • How prana (life force) and ojas (deep vitality) can be cultivated to regulate and support agni (digestive fire) for optimal health
  • A deeper knowledge of the ayurvedic maps: doshas (constitutions), gunas (psychological tendencies), vayus (winds or movement of prana), and koshas (sheaths)
  • How to adapt asana (postures) and pranayama to kindle our agni and better circulate prana for efficient energy management
  • The alchemy of yoga and ayurveda along with diet and lifestyle adjustments to adapt to daily, seasonal, and stage-of-life changes
  • How to identify typical constitutional imbalances and know how to address vikruti (imbalances) through asana, pranayama, deep relaxation, meditation and diet, cleansing, and lifestyle adjustments.

  2. Yoga & Ayurveda: Self-Healing and Self-Realization by David Frawley

These books will be available for purchase on-site and are not included in the cost of tuition.

Optional dinacharya self care packages can be purchased in advance and picked up at the training.

Agni, Ama and digestion according to the pancha kosha model. You will leave with a thorough understanding of Ayurveda as it relates to Food and Digestion:

  • Developing clinical awareness of asana, pranayama, meditation and diet/lifestyle as it relates to digestion and assimilation.

About this Presenter: 

Kathryn Templeton

Kathryn has devoted her life to the health of others. A psychotherapist for more than 20 years, Kathryn is a Master Teacher in the field of Drama Therapy and continues to work both clinically and as an educator specializing in the treatment of individuals with complex trauma. As an E‐500RYT and NAMA‐registered Ayurvedic practitioner, Kathryn has worked to develop specialized treatments integrating the principles of yoga and Ayurveda with clinical therapeutic techniques. Kathryn is an Adjunct Professor of Human Development and General Psychology in the Connecticut Community College system. She holds memberships with the International Association of Yoga Therapists, the National Association of Drama Therapists and the National Ayurvedic Medical Association.

Sarah Guglielmi

Sarah Guglielmi has been on a personal journey of healing and spiritual growth for over 15 years. She has taught yoga since 2002 in corporate, studio, and clinical settings. Originally drawn to yoga practice to relieve chronic stress and illness, Sarah has not only regained her health, but has discovered a spiritual dimension of life she finds rich and inspiring. Sarah serves on the teaching faculty of the Himalayan Institute and is the Professional Education Manager at their headquarters, where she has lived in residence since 2004. She holds a Masters Degree in Materials Engineering from the University of Delaware, and completed an eight-year engineering career with W.L. Gore and Associates, prior to joining the Institute.

Kendall Inman

Kendall was first introduced to ashtanga yoga in college over 25 years ago. She is a 200hr (ERYT), a certified Ayurveda Yoga Specialst. You may recognize Kendall as the founder of Living Yoga Dallas. In that capacity she has produced and participated in dozens of local yoga workshops over the past 10 years with the world's finest yoga masters and highly influential yoga teachers. Kendall has participated in multiple teacher trainings with Rod Stryker, Manju Jois, Beryl Bender Birch, Judith Lasater, and Baron Baptiste. Kendall has studied meditation and relaxation techniques at the Himalayan Institute in Pennsylvania and received her certification in Relax and Renew Restorative Yoga from top Physical Therapist Judith Lasater. Kendall teaches daily yoga classes, privates, and teaches internationally. She offers a Yoga for Athletes class and her vinyasa flow classes are accessible to all levels of practice, yet vigorous and challenging, with very special attention to breath and alignment. Kendall is especially interested in encouraging her students to connect movement with breath, to calm and steady the mind.

Cancellation Policy: 

ADMINISTRATION FEE: A $100.00 administration fee will be applied to each and every cancellation/refund. Refunds less $100 can only be made up to 30 days prior to the event. After 30 days the balance less the non refundable administrative fee of $100 can be applied to a future AYS training only.
