THE WORKSHOP:
Introduction to Ashtanga. The Foundations of Yoga philosophy, breathing and basic postures. Methodology of Asana, Pranayama and Mantra as tools for unveiling our true nature. Beneath the layers of thought, emotions and physical sensations the “Tada drastuh svarupe avasthanam” - then the seer rests in the true form of the self.

Primary Series of Ashtanga Yoga will detail the primary series and working with the traditional Sanskrit count.

Pranayama and Kirtan will provide students with an opportunity to experience the traditional pranayama sequence as well as join Tim for Kirtan chanting.

The practice of Ashtanga Yoga is an ancient and powerful discipline for cultivating physical, mental and spiritual health. Progressive techniques of breath, posture and movement cleanse, stretch and strengthen the body as well as focus and calm the mind. A deeper experience of the self becomes possible through consistent practice.

About this Presenter: 

Tim Miller has a thorough knowledge of the ancient system of Ashtanga Yoga, which he imparts in a dynamic, yet compassionate and playful manner. "My goal as a teacher is to inspire a passion for practice. The practice itself, done consistently and accurately, is the real teacher," says Tim.

Astanga Yoga begins with purification of the physical body through dynamic series of postures and breathing. As a student of yoga for well over 20 years, Tim Miller was the first American certified to teach Ashtanga Yoga in the United States and personally certified by Pattabhi Jois at the Ashtanga Yoga Research Institute in Mysore, India. Tim is international recognized as one of the finest teachers of this system. His teaching, though firmly grounded in tradition, is eclectic, creative and warm. Since 1981, Tim has been the Director of the Ashtanga Center in Encinitas, California. For Tim, “Yoga has been a profound gift that enhanced (his) life in every way and he believes it is a great privilege to be able to share this gift with others”.

Tim is featured regularly in Yoga Journal offering wisdom insight and knowledge on the Ashtanga Yoga tradition and practice. Recently featured in People magazine, Tim Miller’s personal practice is graceful and inspirational.

Tim teaches workshops and retreats throughout the United States and abroad. He is invited to teach at national and international events hosted by Yoga Journal and offers several Ashtanga teacher intensive trainings annually.

What to Bring: 

A well hydrated and well rested body, refraining from eating at least 2 hours prior to the workshop. When eating, select foods like fresh fruit, vegetables, whole grains. Low acidic food choices are optimum.

Wear lose comfortable clothes. Bring your own mat, towel, water and an open mind, body and spirit.

Cancellation Policy: 

30 days prior to event. Refunds prior to Dec. 23, 2003 only.
A $50 processing fee will be incurred for any cancellations/refunds.
