Yoga found me at the end of summer of 2005. I was going through a time of great grief when a kind friend took me to a powerful Vinyasa flow class at Down Dog Yoga in Dallas. I had never tried yoga before but, at least while I was on the mat, my mind was at peace. As an active player for the Dallas Harlequins Rugby Football Club, I came to embrace the physical benefits of daily asana. The practice transformed not only my physique but more profoundly, but my mind and soul.
My professional career began in 2000 earning a BAAS from North Texas with the intention of becoming a substance abuse counselor. My first job in that field revealed that I worked well with young adults, so I went back to school and became a high school history teacher, working primarily with at-risk youth for more than 10 years.
I spent so much time practicing at Down Dog and then later Uptown Yoga that eventually I became a substitute yoga instructor. By 2007, I took over as an instructor for their classes at Trophy Fitness. In 2009, I completed my 200 hour yoga teacher training with Chidananda Sheri Cherokee at Alpha Omega Yoga. Ive also had Vinyasa training with Seane Corn and currently I've been studying ParaYoga with Yogarupa Rod Stryker.
In 2012, I decided to leave the public education system and teach yoga full time. In addition to expanding my classes at Trophy I found a fantastic studio community to teach at in my Oak Cliff neighborhood, Sync Yoga & Wellbeing. Currently, you can find me teaching The Yoga Program at Trophy Fitness Downtown and at Oak Cliff Aikikai where I'm teaching an ongoing series- Living Yoga where in addition to Asana (the physical practice0 and Pranayama (the breath practice) we will explore the other six limbs of yoga- Yamas, Niyamas, Pratyahara, Dharana, Dhyana, and Samadhi.
I teach with the intent of providing something much deeper than just the physical.
My goal is to share the humble practice of stilling the changing states of the mind.
