Learn about science-based minfulness practices. 

There is no orientation or prior knowledge of mindfulness or meditation required.

In this workshop participants can expect the following:

General education and discussion of the basics of mindfulness and the deeply practical benefits.

Guided instruction, and practice and discussion of several contemplative practices that cultivate mindfulness and compassion, including a body scan meditation, mindfulness of the breath meditations, and gentle mindful movement.

Group discussion to increase understanding of how to reduce stress, how to practice multiple forms of mindfulness, and how the practice and can be used in your life to increase well-being.

Clinical research shows that mindfulness practice helps you:

• Relax and handle stress with greater ease.

• Feel more present, aware and focused.

• Handle the challenges of every-day living and create space for wise choices.

• Strengthen your connection with yourself and others.

• Cope better with chronic physical and emotional pain.

• Be compassionate, patient, present and aware.

• Have compassion with others, and take better care of yourself.

Wear comfortable clothing, bring a mat and cushion if you have one. (All practices may also be done on a chair if that is better for you.) Mindfulness Meditation is not therapy and is not intended to replace individual counseling.

About this Presenter: 

Kay Colbert, LCSW is a licensed clinical social worker in Dallas with a long-term personal meditation and yoga practice. Mindfulness has been transformational for her both professionally and personally. Kay has 300 hours of training in teaching Mindfulness-Based Programs through the University of California San Diego Medical School Center for Mindfulness. Kay is a Trained Teacher of Mindful Self-Compassion.
