Jace Maxwell, is the owner and lead teacher training at Zen Yoga Roanoke, and is well-loved there for her bright energy and compassionate spirit.
Jace first discovered Yoga while she was in college. After a long history of depression and complusive over eating that lead to obesity, she was looking for something that would help her learn to love herself, no matter what she looked like on the outside. Wanting to get away from fads diets and hours in the gym, she decided to stop focusing on the physical body. Jace began to study meditation and the more spiritual aspects of this tradition. Learning the history of yoga and the mythology that is deeply interwoven pushed her to dive even deeper into all aspects of Yoga. In an effort to deepen her meditation practice, she started a daily asana (physical yoga) routine with a few girlfriends. Over time she worked her way to a healthy weight, losing almost 100lbs in the process. By learning how to love herself, she had finally stopped worrying about her body image and found a clear path to a healthy mind and body.
Jace is a Reiki master and teacher, she has her 500 hour certification in Hatha Yoga, is a certified children's yoga teacher, yoga teacher trainer. She is continually inspired by yoga’s trans-formative power—both internally and externally, and finds it to be a source of love and strength. She strives to bring a sense of fun, freedom and kindness to her classes, and hopes to impart nuggets of yogic wisdom along the way.
