What follows is extremely valuable information on how we can make 2016 a spectacular year for ourselves and at the same time decrease destructive influences in the world, like violence and global warming. If enough of us do this, we can even help to create world peace. All we have to do is spend a few minutes each day doing the exercises described below. Invite others to do this to add even more positive energy to the world. The more of us who do this, the better it is for all of us.
I almost titled this article "Why are the airlines trying to kill us?”… but then I remembered, they just don't know better…
I'm not sure why this holiday season's travel hit me as hard as it did, I've been all over the globe by myself without a hitch. Maybe it’s possible that my perspective has changed in the recent past...now that I've experienced what a healthy doshic balance feels like, travel induced Vata derrangement is like a bucket of ice water to the face!
One of the most amazing books that I was introduced to several years ago during my yoga therapy certification was “You’re Body Speaks Your Mind,” by Deb Shapiro. Since reading this book the very first time it has remained at my bedside and weekly I go to it for answers and inspiration.
The word Orthorexia is derived from anorexia and “ortho” meaning straight or right. But unlike anorexia which focuses on restricting food intake in order to become thin, orthorexia restricts foods that are insufficiently clean, healthy or wholesome.
Yoga is a very relevant topic to explore in the society of today’s children because it offers something nothing else can offer, a non-competitive outlet. Yoga also has many undeniable benefits that go along with it. Adults are reaping these benefits with great reward. It’s time we share this same outlet with our children today.
We were all born yogis, we just forgot who we are.
I will save you the mumbo jumbo about New Years Resolutions.
On New Years Day, I looked in the mirror, 1 newborn baby, 2 bloody-marys and 3 football bowl games deep into the day...and thought:
“My wife is the one breastfeeding but my manboobs might just do the trick!”
“These moose-knuckle-high-waisted-dad-jeans are not going to further my image.”
“Dave! Yoga Journal is on the phone. They want you for their new cover,” said no one...ever!
Yeah, I got a little down on myself. It happens!
Everyone seems to know about chakras these days – at least as a concept – but do they really know the ins and outs of activating, balancing, and healing using the model of the Chakra System as the profound formula for wholeness that it is?
This elegant map to human consciousness is not only a ladder of liberation for achieving higher states of awareness, but an opening into our own deep psyche, with all its issues and illuminations, from its depths to its heights.
They say that there are a few events in Life that are top stressors.
In the last 12 months I've faced most of them!
But ~ I've never been more content.
Tired right now, yes! But content.
Intentions have guided this eventful year.
Family wise in the past 12 months,
I got married (Eloped with our 4 children in tow)
Said goodbye to Birdie, my sweet 14 year old four-legged fur baby
Sold a car/Bought a car
Moved our “stuff” into storage, moved the family to Venice Beach, CA for the Summer
We’ve all been there. Sitting on our mats in an open room surrounded by yogis with jars of green goodness, lotus tattoos, and exuding inner peace. They stinkin’ glow with the “inner light” we’ve been trying to harness for years by juicing, sweating, and pushing ourselves harder. It’s discouraging, it’s shaming, but if met with a dose of self-compassion and awareness, it’s a beautiful part of our process.
